While your focus may be on what to expect on the day of your procedure, make sure to spend some time reviewing the following pre-op instructions. These will help set you up for success on the day you arrive, but if you have any questions at any point, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
Before Surgery
-
Before the day of your surgery, Dr. Ricci will discuss your medical history with you. Make sure you know what medications you are currently taking and the dosages. If your history is extensive and somewhat complicated, we will determine whether you need to consult your doctor before proceeding with the procedure.
-
If your child is under the age of 18 and preparing for treatment, you or another legal guardian will need to fill out the “Medical History Update Form” and sign the “Disclosure and Consent Form.”
-
You will need to avoid smoking for one week before and one week after your procedure to ensure proper healing.
-
If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment or surgery, contact Dr. Ricci at (972) 835-8505 or by email at shane@riccidds.com.
Surgery with IV Sedation
When learning that you will receive IV sedation on the day of your procedure, keep these important tips in mind as you prepare:
-
You will need to continue taking your medications unless your dentist suggests otherwise. However, be mindful not to drink too much water when taking your medicine.
-
Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 8 hours before your appointment. This will minimize your risk of becoming nauseous.
-
Make sure you have a family member or friend who is over the age of 18 to drive you to and from your appointment and who will remain with you once you are home and recovering.
-
Do not wear restrictive clothing around your neck or arms.
-
Avoid driving or operating any heavy machinery and don’t engage in physical activity for at least 24 hours.
